The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle, 1st/1st, 1912
London: Hodder & Stoughton, (1912). First edition. This is a very good or better copy. It is lightly worn at the corners and the top and tail of the spine. The white border is faded in places throughout the front panel, however the gilt title and illustrations remain bright and present. The boards are tight at the spine with little leaning and the text blocks are generally clean but with mild foxing. Overall, this is a very good or better copy of a scarce first edition title and in better condition than is usually found.
A science-fiction title concerning an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistoric animals still survive. It was originally published serially in the Strand Magazine and illustrated by New-Zealand-born artist Harry Rountree during the months of April–November 1912. The character of Professor Challenger was introduced in this book. The author is in disguise as Professor Challenger in the photo provided as a frontispiece.
