HERBERT, Frank

The Great Dune Trilogy

London: Victor Gollancz Ltd., 1979

8vo., bright crimson publisher’s leatherette lettered in gilt to spine; onlaid leatherette piece to foot, with publisher’s name in gilt - likely a glitch occurring in the book’s production; together in the original pictorial dust jacket, featuring a horrifying wrap-around image by Terry Oakes; black and white photograph of the author by Lurton Blassingame to the front flap; brown map endpapers; pp. [xi], 12-910, [ii]; a very bright and fresh example, near-fine, slight crease to front paste-down, one small black mark to fore-edge; a few white spots to boards and rear endleaves; tiny corner chip to ffep and first page; a couple of very light creases to spine of jacket.

First omnibus edition, made up of Dune, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. This edition also includes four appendices, terminology of the Imperium, and cartographic notes for the map endpapers.

Beginning with the discovery of ‘spice’, the mind-altering drug which makes interstellar space travel possible, Herbert’s intricate storytelling follows the lives of Paul and his mother as they flee the clutches of Baron Harkonnen, join forces with the Fremen, and discover their destiny.

A very uptogether copy of these three pinnacle works of science fiction, and basis for the spectacular cinematic adaptations Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two
