The Famished Road signed and lined by Ben Okri 1st / 1st 1991

First UK edition and first print published by Jonathan Cape in 1991.  It is in near fine condition. The wrapper is very complete with no tears or chips. There is some gentle rubbing to the top of the spine. It is not price clipped. The book is very presentable with clean and bright boards. There is some mild wear to the top of the spine. The pages have no foxing or previous owners ink. Overall a near fine copy. It is a rare copy as it has been signed, lined and dated by the author. The author has lined "A dream can be the highest point of a life".

The Famished Road follows Azaro, an abiku or spirit child, living in an unnamed, most likely Nigerian, city. The novel employs a unique narrative style incorporating the spirit world with the "real" world in what some have classified as Animist Realism. The book exploits the belief in the coexistence of the spiritual and material worlds that is a defining aspect of traditional African life. The Famished Road was awarded the Man Booker Prize for Fiction for 1991.
