The English Novel signed association copy Ford Madox Ford 1st 1929
A First US printing published in 1929 (One Hour series). The book is in very good + condition. The One Hour Series was a cheaply produced edition. The book is tight but the boards are marked, rubbed on the edges and there is some pushing at the spine tips with some darkening of the spine. The text block is a little dusty on the top edge. The orange and black period design however still looks very attractive. The fragile paper wrapper is marked, rubbed and spine faded. There is a 2' closed tear to the rear panel. Overall a very good + copy.
The Book has been inscribed and signed by the author Ford Madox Ford on the front blank endpaper in the year of publication :'To Ernest Rhys from Ford Madox Ford, New York March 28th 1929'. Ernest Rhys was an English writer, best known for his role as founding editor of the Everyman's Library series of affordable classics. In 1906, he persuaded J. M. Dent, the publisher, for whom he was working on The Lyric Poets series, to start out on the ambitious Everyman project, aiming to publish 1000 titles; the idea was to put out ten at a time. The target was eventually reached, ten years after Rhys died. A scarce association copy.
