The Enemy is Listening Signed by Aileen Clayton 1st / 1st 1980

£285.00Price

First UK edition published by Hutchinson in 1980. This is a very good copy. The jacket is a shade faded to the spine. It is not price clipped. The book is bumped to a corner and has some mild wear. The author, Aileen Clayton has signed and dated the title page.

Clayton's autobiography - she was the first woman to be commissioned as an intelligence officer in Britain and did so at the beginning of the Second World War. Her code name was initially Mike Morris, such was the expectation at the time that men would operate intelligence. She began intercepting enemy communication and was the first to work in Y service - a british signals collection network. This would lead her to work on intelligence in The Battle of Britain and then in the Western Desert and the Middle East. She was awarded an MBE and only much later would be able to tell her story, with the publication of this book. Very scarce signed.
