The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester 1st / 1st 1953
First UK edition and first print published by Sidgwick and Jackson in 1953. This is a very good ++ copy. The fragile wrapper has wear along the edges, to the spine ends and to the corners. There are a couple of small chips to the back panel. The spine is faded. There are a small number of tears. It is not price clipped and is favourable to most jackets usually seen. The book is in a very well preserved condition. There is very little foxing marks and none to the text block edges. Overall a very good ++ copy.
This is actor Alastair Sim's copy and he has signed the front free end paper in pencil. He appeared in more than fifty British films, including an iconic adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novella A Christmas Carol, released in 1951 as Scrooge in Great Britain and as A Christmas Carol in the United States.
The Demolished Man is a science fiction police procedural set in a future where telepathy is common, although much of its effectiveness is derived from one individual having greater telepathic skill than another. It was the first hugo award winner in 1953
