The Country Girls by Edna O'Brien 1st / 1st 1960

First edition published by Hutchinson in 1960. A near fine copy. The jacket is in excellent, crisp shape with hardly any wear. It has been clipped. The book is also very presentable with no marks to the boards. There is a previous owner's neat name to the front free end paper. There is no foxing or browning patches and the pages are clean. It is a book in highly collectible condition.
 
A book initially banned by the Irish censorship board and subjected to multiple public book burnings due to the sexual content and how social issues in Ireland were portrayed. The novel divided opinion: it also won awards and was recently added to a list of 100 most influential books by the BBC. A modern firsts classic and rare to find in such nice condition.
