The Case of Sergeant Grischa by Arnold Zweig 1st / 1st 1928
London: Martin Secker (1928). A near fine copy of this UK first edition. The wrapper is very complete with little wear. The spine is a shade sunned. It is not price clipped. The boards have a few light marks. Pages are generally clean. Overall a near fine copy.
A semi autobiographical tale, the novel is in the main satire, focusing on the way in which innocent men are sacrificed in war, one irony being that the authorities spend more time and energy on the niceties of Grischa’s case than they do on trying to save their own soldiers from their fate.
