The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle first cheap edition 1929

£275.00Price

London: John Murray (1929). The first cheaper edition. small 8vo., original blue cloth boards, decorated with gold lettering to the spine, with the original dust jacket; pp. 320; A very good copy. A cheap production with thin paper and poor paper stock. The jacket is priced on the front panel and spine at 2/-. The jacket is mostly there with some small amounts of loss to the top of the spine and tiny chips to the corner tips. There is a pin hole towards the middle of the spine. The spine and edges creased in places. General edgewear. The book also has edgewear and rubbing to the spine ends. The pages have browned. Overall a presentable very good copy.

The cheaper or third collected edition printed two years after the first, with the iconic dust wrapper of Sherlock pointing a revolver. The 'case book' is a later short story collection of Sherlock adventures by Conan Doyle, having all first appeared in The Strand Magazine, like his earlier adventures. A rare early edition in presentable condition.
