The Ascent of Everest by John Hunt multi signed anniversary book order of state
Limited edition 40th Anniversary edition - 1 of only 500 along with two state funeral programmes. All three items have been multi signed. The book is bound in half leather and raised bands. It has its original slipcase. This is number 194 and has been signed by the then surviving members of the successful 1953 expedition team to be the first to climb Mount Everest. It has been signed by 10 including Edmund Hillary and expedition leader John Hunt along with 8 team members. The book and slipcase are both in fine condition. There is some 40th Anniversary ephemera tucked into the front of the book. Along with the book are two state funeral programmes for Edmund Hillary. His funeral was on 22 January 2008 and was held in Auckland Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. 500 people from around the world were in attendance and a few notaries signed these two programmes. The first one is signed by the then four surviving expedition members George Lowe / Mike Westmacott / George Band / Alfred Gregory. The second very scarce programme is signed by noted mountaineers. It is signed by Doug Scott who made the first ascent on the south west face of everest; Brummie Stokes & Bronco Lane who were the 3rd and 4th britains to club everest; Rebecca Stephens who was the first female britain to reach the summit of everest; Chris Bonington who climbed to the summit of Everest four times and Stephen Venables the first britain to reach the top without bottled oxygen. A scarce and fine collection in what is now the 70th Anniversary of Hillary and Torgay's historic climb to the summit of Everest.
