The Aloe by Katherine Mansfield 1st / 1st 1930
First UK edition and first print, one of 750 printed published by Constable & Co in 1930. This copy is in fine condition. The wrapper is remarkably free from any wear. The spine is unfaded and there are no chips or tears. It is not price clipped. The book is in highly presentable condition also. There is no previous owner's ink. Overall a stunning fine copy.
The Aloe is an expanded version of Mansfield's short story 'Prelude'. The shortened version was first published by the Hogarth Press in July 1918, after encouragement from Virginia Woolf. Mansfield had begun writing Prelude in the midst of a love affair she had in Paris in 1915. Her husband published it posthumously here, in its expanded form. One of only 750 copies and scarce with these attributes.
