Stuart Little by E.B. White 1st / 1st 1946

Stuart Little by E.B. White 1st / 1st 1946

£275.00Price

First UK edition and first print published by Hamish Hamilton in 1946. This is a near fine copy. The fragile wrapper has no tears or rips and no chips. It is complete with the correct price of 7s 6d on the inside flap. The wrapper has some very feint foxing marks to the back panel and inside flaps. The book has no foxing and no previous owner's marks. Overall a very nice example. It is rare to have such a nice jacket with copies often prone to chipping.

Stuart Little was White's first children's book, and it is now widely recognized as a classic in children's literature. Stuart Little was illustrated by the subsequently award-winning artist Garth Williams, also his first work for children. The book is a realistic fantasy story about a mouse-like human boy named Stuart Little. According to the first chapter, he ″looked very much like a rat/mouse in every way″. It was adapted into a film starring Hugh Lawrie and Geena Davis in 1999.
