The fourth book in the Hitch Hiker’s series, the book marks a shift in tone from Adam’s previously cynical depiction of modern technology. Adams had purportedly been taken to a computer fair, in which he became enamored with the first model of the Macintosh, and became one of the first people in the UK to own a Mac.
“So long and thanks for all the fish” was the dolphin’s final message as they departed Earth, just before it was destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass.
