Sixe Idillia of Theocritis signed Vivien Gribble / Naomi Mitchison 1st 1922
First edition limited to 380 copies published by Duckworth & Company in 1922. A small number of copies were hand coloured from this limitation, this not being one of them. However it still retains its dustwrapper. There is a couple of scuff marks to the front panel, one of which affects the designed motif. The spine is browned and has a small amount of loss to the top of the spine. The boards of the book itself are nice as are the majority of the pages. 2 of them are heavily browned. There are 34 woodcuts by Vivien Gibble throughout and she has signed and numbered the book on the limitation page. Overall a very good copy.
This copy is particularly rare as there is an inscription on one of the heavily browned front free end papers from Naomi Mitchison's husband Dick Mitchison, with a warm inscription to his wife. It is dated in the year of publication. He quotes a line from Sixe Edillia to Naomi. He says "Naomi, from her lover Dick "Sure some honest man did sneze to thee.....to meet with such a one as shee." Christmas 1922."
