Shardik signed by Richard Adams, 1st/1st, 1974
This is a near fine copy of Shardik, signed and dated by Richard Adams on the year of publication, in first edition and first impression. London, Allen Lane, 1974. The dust jacket is in near fine condition, with light creasing, tearing, and visible signs of shelf wear at the top and tail of the spine. The boards are free from chips and marks, but the corners are lightly crumpled. The text blocks are lightly marked but altogether white and clean. This copy is free from previous owner's ink, aside from that of the author, and is in near fine condition.
Shardik is his second novel, and first of two novels set in the fictional Beklan Empire. The events revolve around the discovery, capture and military and symbolic uses made of an incredibly large bear, called Lord Shardik by those who subscribe to a set of religious beliefs in the novel.
