Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot 1st / 1st 1939

FIRST UK EDITION published by Faber & Faber in 1939. The wrapper has a short tear to the front panel along the top edge. The spine is browned. There is minor wear to the spine and corner ends. It is price clipped. It is pretty much complete and a pretty nice example. The book has a few very light speckles of foxing to the front free end paper otherwise very clean and presentable with no previous owners ink. Overall a very good or better copy. 
 
Eliot's poetry book for children about cats. It became hugely popular sparking many reprints and a later published illustrated edition with drawings by Nicholas Bentley. Illustrators such as Edward Gorey and Axel Scheffler have since had a go too.  The book is the basis of Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical Cats.
