A first edition and first print published by Chatto & Windus in London 1927. This copy is near fine. The wrapper has worn along the edges with a few small rips on the corners. There is browning and light foxing to the wrapper. It has not been price clipped and has the price of 7s net. The text block has browning and foxing. The pages are clean without chips or tears. There is not any previous owners ink. There is light browning and foxing to all the pages. Overall, this rare copy is in a near fine condition.
Sylvia Townsend Warner was a poet, short-story writer, and novelist, as well as an authority on early English music and a member of the Communist Party. Her first novel, Lolly Willowes, appeared in 1926 and was the first ever Book of- the-Month Club selection. Mr. Fortune’s Maggot, her second, followed a year later.
