London: William Heinemann (1935). First UK edition of this classic anti-war novel with the striking dust wrapper. It is in very good condition. The wrapper is mostly complete. There is wear to the corners and spine ends. There is a tear to the bottom of the spine that goes through the Heinemann logo although it is firmly attached and presents well in brodart. The book itself is very clean, sturdy and square with no foxing or other marks. Overall a very good copy.

The author worked as an official war correspondent during the war. He wrote many novels of note during the 20’s and 30’s but became preoccupied with his hatred of war and violence. He then released this, his polemic on the first world war, released at a time when the second world war appeared increasingly likely.
