Lyrics on Several Occasions Signed by Ira Gershwin 1st / 1st 1959
First US edition and first print published by Knopf in 1959. This is a very good ++ copy. The wrapper has a small chip to the top edge of the back panel and some minor wear to the spine ends. The spine has a couple of shades of sun fading. The book only has very minor handling wear. There are very little if any foxing marks and no previous owners ink. Overall a very good ++ copy and rare as it has an inscription from the author, Ira Gershwin to the front free end paper.
Ira Gershwin was an American lyricist who collaborated with his younger brother, composer George Gershwin, to create some of the most memorable songs in the English language of the 20th century. With George he wrote more than a dozen Broadway shows. The success the Gershwin brothers had with their collaborative works has often overshadowed the creative role that Ira played. His mastery of songwriting continued, however, after the early death of George. He wrote additional hit songs with composers Jerome Kern, Kurt Weill, Harry Warren and Harold Arlen.
This critically acclaimed book, an amalgam of autobiography and annotated anthology, is an important source for studying the art of the lyricist in the golden age of American popular song. And very rare signed by him.
