Love Poems and Others by D.H. Lawrence first edition 1913
LAWRENCE, D. H. Love Poems and Others. London: Duckworth & Co., 1913.
First edition. Octavo. Original dark blue cloth, upper board and spine lettered in gilt. 64pp. With the publisher's loosely inserted "Modern Plays" catalogue dated October 1912. Near fine. Cloth bright and clean with just a small mark to the upper board and the lightest rubbing at the extremities. Internally exceptionally fresh and clean throughout with no inscriptions or foxing. The scarce publisher's catalogue likewise in excellent condition.
D. H. Lawrence's third published book and his first substantial collection of poetry, issued in the same year as Sons and Lovers. The volume contains a number of Lawrence's finest early poems, including "Kisses in the Train", "Cherry Robbers", "Bei Hennef", "Transformations" and "Michael-Angelo". A near fine example of an increasingly elusive Lawrence first edition, particularly desirable with the original publisher's loosely inserted advertising catalogue.
