Light by Henri Barbusse 1st / 1st 1919
London: J.M. Dent & Sons . First UK edition with the exceptionally scarce dust wrapper. There is some small amounts of loss to the spine ends and a small tear to the top right hand corner and the same to the bottom left of the front panel. There is a previous owner’s inscription to the front free end paper. A very good copy.
A truly difficult title to find with its first issue jacket in any kind of condition. First published in France (as “Clarte”) this UK first has been translated by Fitzwater Wray. It tells the story of a man being called up for service, where he is thrust into the horror of the trenches and the experience of the war opens his eyes to the injustices of his society.
