Level 7 by Mordecai Roshwald 1st / 1st 1959
First UK edition published by William Heinemann in 1959. This is a very good copy. The jacket has some tiny amounts of loss along the top edge and the spine has browned. Otherwise the Sheila Perry designed jacket is complete with the 15s price displayed on the inside flap. The book is in excellent condition with only the remants of a price sticker, removed from the front free end paper as wear. Overall very good.
Roshwald's best works, it is about a giant shelter 4000 feet below ground and the occupants that live there, in readiness and fear of a nuclear fallout. The story is told from the point of view of a 'pushbutton officer' who describes the events that unfold and his surroundings. It is a scarce first UK edition of this critically acclaimed post apocalyptic novel.
