Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H Lawrence privately printed 2nd ed 1929
Second authorized edition: the Author's Unabridged Popular Edition privately printed in 1929. This copy has been rebound in hardcovers with the original purple wraps bound in. Overall in very good ++ condition. All pages very clean and presentable.
The novel was initially published in an edition of 1,000 copies by the Orioli Press in Florence in 1928, and was almost immediately pirated by at least four different publishers. Lawrence had always intended to release a cheap version, and was spurred on to do so by the appearance of the unauthorized copies. In 1929 he approached Edward Titus and negotiated this edition to be sold at 60 francs, with a new introduction regarding the pirated printing entitled My Skirmish with Jolly Roger. One of only 3000 printed.
