Edition De Luxe. Original Vellum Backed Boards undated but published in 1931. No. 41 of the limited edition of a hundred copies of the portfolio. Subjects are Noel Coward, Miss Peggy Wood, Mr.Georges Metaxa, Miss Ivy St. Helier, Mr. Charles B.Cochran - cast members from Coward's play Bitter Sweet. Includes five tipped-in colour-plates on grey card (each one signed) and a Max "Note" in facsimile. Also laid loose within the portfolio is the original prospectus. Portfolio is bound in quarter vellum with the title stamped in gilt. Scarce signed set overall in near fine condition. Small previous owners book plate on inside board. very little wear to the portfolio and the caricatures present well with no wear to speak over. Overall near fine
Bitter Sweet is an operetta in three acts, with book, music and lyrics by Noël Coward. The story, set in 19th century and early 20th century England and Austria-Hungary, centres on a young woman's elopement with her music teacher. The songs from the score include "The Call of Life", "If You Could Only Come with Me", "I'll See You Again", "Dear Little Café", "If Love Were All", "Ladies of the Town", "Tokay", "Zigeuner" and "Green Carnation". The show had a long run in the West End from 1929 to 1931.
