CHESTERTON, G.K. (Gilbert Keith). G.K.'s Weekly featuring Chesterton's essay on King Edward VIII. January 30, 1936.

London: G.K.'s Weekly Ltd., 1936.

Original newspaper-format periodical, 220 x 280 mm, pp. 294-308, complete as issued. Light spotting to the covers, a few small marginal marks and signs of handling, central fold, overall about very good.

Published immediately following the accession of Edward VIII, this issue opens with Chesterton's substantial leading article, "The New Reign", a thoughtful reflection on the constitutional monarchy following the death of George V. Chesterton contrasts the personalities of the late King and his successor while examining the enduring place of the Crown within British political life, arguing for the monarch's unique influence as a national figure above party politics. Elsewhere the issue includes Chesterton's regular column "Looking On", together with contemporary commentary on domestic politics, international affairs and the Distributist movement. An uncommon surviving issue of G.K.'s Weekly with original weekly periodicals hard to come by in commerce.
