Few Were Left by Harold Rein [John Minton jacket] 1st / 1st 1955
First edition and first print published by Methuen in 1955. This copy is in very good condition. The fantastic john minton illustrated dust wrapper has a few short tears along the top edge and there are faded foxing marks to the back panel and to the reverse of the jacket. It isn't price clipped and the jacket for this rare title is very much complete with no chips. The book is very nice - bright, square and sturdy. The pages are very clean with no previous owners ink. Overall very good.
The author's first novel - a post apocolytic sci-fi classic - recounts with terrifying plausibility what happens to a group of survivors trapped in a New York underground after some gigantic but unspecific catastrophe has sealed all the exits. The passengers in the 207th station begin a nightmare joirney through the tunnel, searching always for a way to the upper air and living on what they can find in the wrecked kiosks. John Minton perfectly captures the claustrophic drama of the story on the jacket. Rare.
