Deductions from the World War by Baron Von Freytag-Loringhoven 1st / 1st 1918
London: Constable and Company Limited (1918). First UK edition in near fine condition. The wrapper is very complete with litle wear. It is bright and without fading. It is not price clipped. The book is also in presentable condition. There is a previous owner’s inscription on the front free end paper.
An unusual book from the then Deputy Chief of the General Staff. He analyses Germany’s actions in the war and draws conclusions around tactics, military structure and leadership. Even though he penned his thoughts in 1917 in the midst of the war, he discusses the ‘next war’ and what Germany would need to do “rebuild the military system on an indestructible economic foundation”. Very much an imperialist, Freytag meant this for german consumption, but this scarce UK first edition was published by Constable and sold to the british public as an insight into the german military way of thinking at that time.
