Company by Samuel Beckett 1st / 1st 1980

£85.00Price

First edition and first print published by John Calder in 1980. A near fine copy. The dust wrapper is not price clipped and is in very complete condition with no chips or tears. There is a minuscule dent towards the top left of the front panel. The book is in an unread condition with no previous owners marks / wear or any foxing. It is a very nice collectors copy in near fine condition.

Company is a novella. It is one of Beckett's '"closed space" stories. In it, a man lies on his back in the dark, musing about the nature of existence and in particular, his own life. While there are several reminiscences about the narrator's own life (and these seem to have an autobiographical air about them), the main concern seems to be that of the paradox of consciousness itself and the nature of reality.
