Cecil the Camel Signed and Doodled by Frank Wilson 1st / 1st 1948

Cecil the Camel Signed and Doodled by Frank Wilson 1st / 1st 1948

£185.00Price

First edition published by Jonathan Cape in 1948. This is a near fine copy. The jacket has a tear at the bottom of the fold of the lower flap. Otherwise the jacket is remarkably clean as is the book. There is no foxing or taning and no other marks. It is very rare to find this book with its original dust wrapper. And it is a particularly rare copy as it has a full page sketch by the author on the half title page. it is of Cecil and Mr Mouse. The author has inscribed to a previous owner and has also written their names on a letter held by Cecil too. Also tucked in on hotel headed paper is an additional sketch by Frank Wilson of a little boy with a cold, that when turned around is also an Indian Cavalry Soldier.

Cecil the Camel is a story set in the 19th Century regarding one camels treck across india. Cecil ends up with the bengal lancers and then back on a boat back to England where he meets Queen Victoria for tea. A scarce book with all of the attributes that I have listed.
