Call it a Day by Dodie Smith with the wraparound band 1st 1936
£350.00Price
First UK edition published by Victor Gollancz in 1936. This is a very good copy. The wrapper has several marks across the panels and is rubbed to the spine ends. The orange oversized band has several small tears. The book has a smattering of foxing marks to the text block and is stamped 'File Copy' to the inside board. A gollancz file copy and very rare to find in hardback, with the jacket and the promotional wraparound band.
A scarce book as it is the first published by Dodie Smith, using her real name. Her first three plays she released under a pseudonym (Autumn Crocus, Service, Touch Wood were all published under C.L. Anthony). Call it a Day was first performed at the Globe Theatre and became Smith's longest running play.
