Burmese Days by George Orwell 1st uniform edition 1949
First uniform edition published by Secker & Warburg in 1949. This is a rare near fine copy. The fragile jacket is complete and in excellent condition. It is not price clipped. The book is also very clean and smart with very little if any foxing and no ink. It retains the pink top stain. Overall a really lovely near fine copy of the first uniform edition.
Orwell's second novel after Down and out in Paris and London. This novel based loosely on his time in the Indian Imperial Police, has a difficult publication history, being published first in the US and then a year later in 1935 in the UK. This first uniform edition published in 1949 presents as a more affordable option to collect. It is particularly rare to find this edition in such nice condition and so rare. [Fenwick A. 2e]
