£200.00Price

First UK edition set in two volumes complete published by Allan Wingate. The first volume was published in 1948 and the second in 1951. The set overall is very good. Volume 1 which covers 16th to the 18th Century and is compiled by George Orwell and Reginald Reynolds. There is heavy foxing for the first and last two or three pages. The remaining pages and text block is clear. The wrapper and book other than foxing is excellent. Volume 2 covering the French Revolution to the present time is compiled by A.J.P Taylor and Reginald Reynolds. The front board and reverse of the jacket has damp staining albeit the book and jacket are complete and presents well. Overall the set is very good. The project was started by Orwell and Reynolds in 1947 and Orwell wrote the introduction in spring of 1947. The second volume was written after Orwell's death and Reynolds enlisted the help of A.J.P Taylor. [Fenwick B.31]
