Boy Signed by James Hanley 1st / 1st 1931
First edition and first print published by Boriswood in 1931. From an edition limited to 160 copies, this is one of 145 numbered and signed by the author. It is in near fine condition. There is a tiny closed tear to the bottom of the spine of around 2mm. The label has some rubbing. The binding is very clean and free from marks and all of the pages are clean and free from foxing or other marks. The front free end paper is browned but is limited to this page only. Overall a near fine copy and rare being one of only 160 copies. Signed by the author.
Boy, James Hanley's second novel is a grim story of the brief life and early death of a thirteen year old stowaway from Liverpool. The publisher was prosecuted for obscene libel and heavily fined. It was Hanley's first 'novel of the sea'.
