This is a near fine copy of Toni Morrison's 'Beloved' in first edition, first printing. Chatto & Windus, London, 1987. The textblocks in very good condition with discolouration to the textblock with a scratch on the side and bottom of the textblock and some dark marks on the top and bottom of the textblock, however little to no foxing on the textblocks. The dust jacket shows some shelf wear with a few creases on the top of the cover and a tear on the bottom of the inside cover, however is in overall near fine condition, and has not been price clipped. The boards have a couple of very small chips on the bottom of edge of the boards with a few white marks on the top and bottom edges of the boards, however are in nice condition. Overall this is a near fine copy.

 

Beloved is a 1987 novel by the American writer Toni Morrison. Set after the American Civil War, it tells the story of a family of former slaves whose Cincinnati home is haunted by a malevolent spirit. Beloved is inspired by a true-life incident involving Margaret Garner, an escaped slave from Kentucky who fled to the free state of Ohio in 1856, but was captured in accordance with the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.
