Autograph letter signed, Anchorfield, Muir Street, Lower Hawthorn, Victoria, 8 November 1920, single sheet, 210 x 260 mm, written on both sides; together with an original printed handbill advertising Douglas Sladen's lectures on Australian Poetry at Steinert Hall, Boston, 130 x 200 mm, with filing holes and contemporary manuscript note by Sladen to the reverse: "I would clearly have got you tickets had you been in Boston." Old folds, the letter with light handling wear and marginal creasing, overall very good.
 
A post-war letter from the Australian poet George Gordon McCrae to the writer, lecturer and anthologist Douglas Sladen. Writing shortly after the First World War, McCrae thanks Sladen for forwarding material concerning a young Australian killed at Fromelles, reflecting upon the sacrifice of soldiers and discussing the posthumous award of the Victoria Cross and the Distinguished Service Order. Accompanying the letter is an uncommon American lecture handbill for Sladen's Boston lectures on Australian poetry, devoted principally to Adam Lindsay Gordon and Henry Clarence Kendall, with Sladen's own manuscript note on the reverse.
 
An attractive literary association linking two literary figures in Australian literature, combining a Great War letter with an uncommon surviving piece of American lecture ephemera.
