Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll / Arthur Rackham 1st 1907
London: William Heinemann [1907]
8vo; with the publisher’s olive-green boards with dark green lettering on the upper board and spine, along with gilt motif of a griffin and mock turtle; pp xi., 162, (2); the boards in nice shape and a very good or better copy, certainly a collectible copy, the spine is a shade faded, the corners are gently pushed and spine ends lightly rubbed, the end papers are foxed, otherwise a smart copy; paginated as complete with all of the 13 beautiful colour Rackham plates as called for, with their tissue guards.
The first Rackham trade edition, with first issue points present such as the advertisement for Rip Van Winkle to the reverse of the half title page, and the Pamela Tennant title advertised at the rear of the book. This book unusually has a spare frontispiece picture ‘Alice,’ that is loosely placed at the rear of the book, that most likely came from a defective limited-edition copy.
A lovely copy of the Rackham first trade edition, of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
