A Dweller in Mesopotamia by Donald Maxwell WW1 1st / 1st 1921
First UK edition published by John Lane, The Bodley Head in 1921. This is a very good + copy. the publisher's original olive cloth-covered boards backed in buckram are in a reasonable condition. A couple of corners are rubbed. There is a long mark along the bottom edge of the front board. Pages inside are clean with only the first couple of pages showing browning. Overall a very good + copy.
With 28 fine plates, including 16 in colour and 12 in monochrome, and with 34 line drawings within the text. Maxwell became an official war artist towards the end of WW1 and was sent by the Imperial War Museum to Mesopotamia to capture some of the scenes there, describing what he saw. He was a respected travel writer as well as artist.
