A Chatto & Windus Almanack [Wilfred Owen] 1 of 250 1st 1926

£350.00Price

First and only edition being a limitation of 250 copies. This is copy number 216. Printed on hand made paper and printed by the Curwen Press in 1926. This copy is in very good condition. Printed in hardback with paper boards and a cloth spine with gilt lettering. The boards have a few light marks otherwise the rough cut pages are clean and the book is without foxing or previous owners marks. Overall a very good copy.

I can only locate two Chatto & Windus Almanacks printed in this format: this one in 1926 and another in 1927 also limited to 250 copies. The 1927 version was illustrated by the artist Stanley Spencer and is much sought after. This one produced a year before, has fantastic illustrations by Albert Rutherston, along with contributions by Aldous Huxley, Roger Fry, Clive Bell and also the inclusion of one of Wilfred Owen's poems 'Strange Meeting'. This would be Owen's first poem from his posthumously published collection of poems in 1920. It is rare to find any publications pre-1930 that have Wilfred Owen poems printed in them. This Almanack along with the one printed the following year are rare, and this 1926 Almanack particularly so, with none in commerce and only a handful in institutions.
