Ritual in the Dark with Uncorrected Proof by Colin Wilson, 1st/1st, 1959
London: Victor Gollancz Ltd., (1959).
First edition. Near fine condition. The dust wrapper is bright and clean but suffers from very light creases at the top and bottom edges. It has not been price clipped. The original red cloth boards are without chips and marks. The text blocks are lightly toned but free from foxing on the bottom and side edges. The proof copy is of a similar condition and suffers from light rubbing at the edges. The spine is mildly creased. It is stamped ‘Uncorrected’ in purple on the front free endpaper. Overall, this is a near fine copy with an equally near fine uncorrected proof copy.
A wave of sickening deaths hits the streets of modern London. Young women, mainly prostitutes, are found strangled and mutilated. The police are baffled, the press outraged - not since Jack the Ripper has such a sinister brand of violent murders been unleashed. Is the culprit a homicidal maniac or a cold-blooded, calculating killer wreaking a personal vendetta on a corrupt and callous society?
