1982 Janine signed by Alasdair Gray 1st / 1st 1984

First edition and first print published by Jonathan Cape in 1984. This is a near fine copy. The wrapper has no wear at all. It is price clipped and a cape repricing sticker is attached to the inside flap. The book is also very presentable with no foxing, marks or previous owners ink. The author has signed to the front free endpaper without dedication. Overall a near fine copy.

This is Alasdair Grays second novel and remains his most controversial work. Its use of pornography as a narrative device attracted much criticism, although others, including Gray himself, consider it his best work. The novel is narrated by Jock McLeish, a supervisor of the installation of alarm systems. Divorced, alcoholic and approaching fifty, his problems coalesce in a long night of the soul in a hotel room in Selkirk.
