Eastern Approaches by Fitzroy Maclean, 1st/1st, 1949
London: Jonathan Cape, (1949). First edition. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper is clean and with slight rubbing at the edges and slightly soiled. There is separation at the top and tail of the spine. It has been neatly price clipped. The boards are free from notable chips and marks but loosely bound to the spine and with a slight lean. Each of the illustrations and maps are present. Overall, this is a very good copy of a rare first edition. A memoir of the early career of the author. It is divided into three parts: his life as a junior diplomat in Moscow and his travels in the Soviet Union, especially the forbidden zones of Central Asia; his exploits in the British Army and SAS in the North Africa theatre of war; and his time with Josip Broz Tito and the Partisans in Yugoslavia.
